About Karvi
In a Nutshell
Karvi is Island Packet Model 420 hull number 6. She was maufactured in 1999 by the Island Packet Company of Largo, Florida, and commissioned in 2000 in San Diego, California with the name Reaching Deep. Several years later new owners changed her name to Emerald Isle and in 2014 shortly after we bought her, the name was changed again to Karvi.
Karvi is 45 feet long and 14 feet wide. She has 3 cabins, 2 heads with showers (bathrooms), and a galley (kitchen). Her keel which contains 12,000 pounds of ballast extends 5 feet deep into the water and her mast rises 59 feet into the sky. Her displacement, which is a fancy way of saying how much she weighs, is 36,000 pounds. She is cutter rigged which is to say the mast is stepped roughly in the middle of the boat with three standard sails, a main sail, a head sail and a stay sail. Karvi also has a spinnaker sail. For auxiliary power, Karvi has an inboard 75hp turbocharged Yanmar diesel marine engine. Karvi was designed by Robert K. Johnson, the founder of the Island Packet Company.
